A Message from Principal Matt Walton
Dear Goodwin Families,
I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Goodwin Elementary School. My career in education began in kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, where I developed a deep appreciation for the foundational years of learning. I later transitioned to teaching Grade 6 English Language Arts—right here in Old Saybrook—a role I held for 11 years, including four as the English Department Head.
For the past 13 years, I have served as Associate Principal at Old Saybrook Middle School. While I have truly cherished my time supporting students and staff at the middle school level, I am thrilled to return to the elementary setting—where the wonder of learning begins and every day is filled with curiosity, growth, and discovery.
Elementary school is a special and formative time in a child’s life. It’s where children develop not only essential academic skills, but also confidence, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning. I am excited to partner with you and our dedicated staff to create a joyful, supportive, and engaging school environment where every child can thrive.
Thank you for the warm welcome I’ve already received. I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together to ensure a successful school year ahead.
In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying a restful summer filled with family, fun, and a slower pace.
Warm regards,
Matt Walton
Principal, Goodwin Elementary School
