What does it take to be ready when you discover what you really want to do?

Nationally recognized speaker and bestselling author Mark C. Perna challenged Old Saybrook students in grades 8 through 12 to start building that foundation now.

Perna encouraged students to create their own competitive advantage through the accumulation of academic, technical, and personal skills. His message focused on preparing for future opportunities, making purposeful choices, and developing the skills needed to succeed while building a life that is authentic to who they are.

It was a powerful connection to the work happening throughout OSPS as students explore their interests, strengthen their skills, and begin thinking about the paths they may choose beyond school.

Last week, our ninth graders took part in a two-day Freshmen Retreat through Old Saybrook High School’s Link Crew program. The experience began on the OSHS turf with games, trust-building, and problem-solving alongside Link Crew Leaders, teachers, Camp Hazen staff, and Old Saybrook Youth and Family Services.

On Friday, the program moved to Camp Hazen for a full day of activities including canoeing, archery, and the Alpine Tower. The retreat is one way Link Crew helps freshmen build connections and become more comfortable with high school culture and expectations.

Dr. Vallieres told the visitors that Sound has always been a family-owned shop, located in Old Saybrook for the last 20 years, that offers family-friendly resources and work schedules.
